Random Question - Best Job

What was the best or most fun job you've had and why? I'm guessing this guy would pick his current job.

Wrote commercials at the television station in Aberdeen, SD. It is where I met your dad.

Mom, what was your favorite commercial?

Anyone want to take a guess as to what my favorite job would be??

My favorite job was being a student!

Was your favorite job Bob's IGA?!

HAHAHAHA!! I didn't even think of that until you mentioned it. Ahhh, yes, my cashiering days at Bob's. At times it was interesting but not my first choice.

Actually it was when I worked for the RNC here in MN during the 2004 election. Highlights: I worked on the events staff for events with people such as, Gov. Pawlenty, Senator Coleman, several MN Congressmen, Vice President Cheney and his wife and also.... yes... President Bush and his wife. Come on, like them or not you gotta admit it was pretty cool!

It was working with the MN GOP staff and the United States Secret Service for an event with the President and his wife that was by far the best job!

My specific job at the event with the President was meant I had to guard, yes guard the VIP area near the stage and allowing only specific people entrance (I know am verrry scary and intimidating - ok, ya I don't know what they were thinking either). I was positioned on the President's walkway (raised about 4ft high). Good thing too since I am barely over 5 feet myself but it helped with my intimidation factor, ok not really. That came from the presence of really serious looking and armed secret service members positioned all around me.

It was really an amazing experience all in all. In fact at one point I was given the assignment of taking CLASSIFIED documents pertaining to a MN trip by Vice President Cheney and getting copies made for staff.

In the end I actually became physically unable to finish my job (had to resign about a day before election day) due to the overwhelming stress that finally caught up with me. But I am extremely grateful to have had the experience.

Later one of the contacts I had made set up personal tours of the East Wing and West Wing of the White House when we were on our honeymoon.

Now tell everyone about the record you set for the shortest time spent at one job.

Only if I am asked by AT LEAST one other person...

Hey, what was the record you set for the shortest time at one job?

Oh, and I was going to say that you probably liked Abbott the best...

Abbott?! Jenny is surely kidding, right? That was the only job I quit and walked out of (trust me it was the right thing to do).

The shortest time at a job. Interestingly enough it was working for the MN GOP when I was in college.

Basically I was a telemarketer. But I was at this job for such a short time that I didn't ever make it beyond short survey type calls and they were to known GOP supporters. In fact, it was so short I didn't even get paid. Yes, that should have been the tip off. You had to put in three days before you would get paid...hmmmmm can't imagine why they had that policy.

Did I last a month? A week? A day? nope. I lasted until the first break. Two hours. Yes, two VERY LONG hours. Perhaps my breaking point was a call not long before my break when a lady hung up on me (many did) but not before yelling "GO GET A REAL JOB!" at me.

Of course my mom said I probably wasn't going to like this job. I of course argued. Once again, she was right.

One Last Thought From Me

Why not remember this act of love and sacrifice daily rather than just at Easter? Yes, this event is an indescribably joyous one because Jesus did rise from the dead but we should never forget how and why He suffered unimaginably before defeating Death and Hell itself on our behalf. He did so while thinking of you and me. In doing so he personally took on our sin, our pain and a debt we could not pay in order to provide a way to complete forgiveness and redemption. The truth is, either way death is not the end and being a “good person” isn’t a substitution for being truly forgiven.

God tells us that by simply believing Jesus rose from the dead, confessing and turning away from our sin and making the Bible the true foundation of our life, we will be forgiven for our sins and live eternally in Heaven.

As you may know, I am far from perfect and if you have doubts about that I’m sure you can find a multitude of people who can confirm that. I have made countless mistakes and bad judgments and will again in the future despite my best intentions. It is because of this that I am exceedingly thankful I can go directly to God and ask for help, ask for forgiveness and know that God's mercy is new every morning as I continually work to keep my foundation on God's Word. Truly accepting God's love, mercy and a true freedom offered in a life firmly anchored in His Word is something there simply aren't words to describe.

I have to admit that I regularly take that for granted and listening to the words in a song like “Via Dolorosa” is one way to help remind me of the sacrifice Jesus made on that cross. Deciding to live for Christ was without a doubt the best decision I made in my life. Don’t get me wrong, it didn’t solve all my problems and make my life perfect. But I have a peace and hope only God can offer and I know in God’s eyes He sees a child forgiven rather than condemned. Now that I am a parent I can’t even begin to imagine what it must be like for God to watch His children exercise their free will when they chose to reject Him rather than embrace the salvation He offers each of us.

Regardless of your feelings on God and Jesus I hope you enjoy the power of the images and music I posted. And thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts about what can be a very sensitive issue.

Via Dolorosa (Latin for Sorrowful Road)
